GABORONE – The Cuban Ambassador to Botswana, Antonio Luis Pubillones Izaguirre, was received Tuesday morning on, 15 September 2026, by Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations.

During the fraternal meeting both diplomats examined the current status and prospects of the bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to continue to work together to strengthen and expand the already existing bonds of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

Ambassador Pubillones informed the minister on the very difficult socio-economic situation currently faced by the Cuban people as a result of the ruthless and ilegal economic, commercial and financial blockade, tightened by the energy siege imposed by the United States government against Cuba. He also expressed, on behalf of the Cuban Government and people, profound appreciation for the unwavering support by the Government of Botswana to the Cuban struggle against the US economic war on the Island and to other bilateral and multilateral issues.

The Minister, on his part, thanked the Ambassador for his update and highlighted the crucial contribution of Cuba to the development of Botswana, particularly in the health and other socio-economic sectors.
