GABORONE – The Cuban Ambassador to Botswana, Antonio Luis Pubillones Izaguirre, was received on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Ministry of International Relations, by Ms. Daphne Mlotshwa, Director of Europe and Américas Department.

During the fraternal exchange, both diplomats examined the present status and prospects of the bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to continue to work together for their further expansion and enhancement.

The Ambassador took the opportunity to update the Director about the current difficult situation in Cuba due to the illegal and ruthless US policy of economic war against the Cuban people, tightened by the energetic blockade imposed to the Island on January 29th 2026.

The Cuban diplomat conveyed the Director the Cuban Government and people’s profound appreciation for Botswana’s support on the issue of the blockade and thanked her again for her permanent support in the discharge of his duties.

Director Mlotshwa reciprocated her sentiments by thanking Ambassador Pubillones for Cuba’s support to her country in the health sector and other critical areas of the bilateral cooperation.
Ms. Mlotshwa was accompanied by Ms. Charity Rhino, officer in charge of the Cuban Desk at the Ministry.
