HARARE – European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Katrin Hagemann, has held her first official meeting with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Zimbabwe today 0n Tuesday 30 June 2026, H.E. Rosemary Kalapurakal, pledging closer cooperation on the country’s sustainable development goals.
In a statement posted after the engagement, Ambassador Hagemann described the meeting as “a genuine pleasure,” noting it was their first encounter since Kalapurakal’s arrival in Zimbabwe.
“It was a genuine pleasure to call on Kalapurakal today for our first meeting since her arrival in Zimbabwe. The EU and UN have long stood together for the country’s sustainable development — I look forward to a strong partnership ahead,” Hagemann said.
The EU and UN have been key partners in Zimbabwe’s development agenda, supporting programmes in health, climate resilience, agriculture, humanitarian response, and governance reforms.
Diplomatic observers say the meeting signals continuity in EU-UN coordination as Zimbabwe advances its Vision 2030 targets and works to attract increased development financing.
Ambassador Hagemann, who represents the European Union in Harare, is expected to lead the bloc’s engagement on trade, green energy, and human rights during her tenure. Kalapurakal assumed her role as UN Resident Coordinator recently, with a mandate to align UN agencies behind Zimbabwe’s national priorities.
Both offices indicated they will prioritize a “strong partnership ahead,” with joint work likely to focus on sustainable development, food security, and support for vulnerable communities.
The EU remains one of Zimbabwe’s largest multilateral development partners, while the UN country team coordinates assistance across more than 20 agencies on the ground.
