The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that more than 1,000 people have fled Sudan’s Kordofan region in just 48 hours as fighting between armed groups intensifies. The escalation has left communities displaced, with families seeking refuge in neighboring regions and makeshift shelters.

Local authorities described the situation as a “humanitarian emergency,” noting that hospitals and aid centers are overwhelmed. Civilians reported attacks on villages, looting, and widespread destruction of homes and farmland. Many families have left belongings behind, carrying only essentials as they flee to safer areas.

The IOM is coordinating with local partners to provide urgent relief, including food, water, and medical assistance. However, access remains limited due to ongoing clashes, blocked roads, and security concerns.

This latest wave of displacement reflects broader instability in Sudan, where political tensions, armed conflict, and economic hardship continue to affect millions. The situation has drawn international concern, with calls for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians.

Humanitarian agencies warn that without rapid intervention, the displaced population could face severe shortages, malnutrition, and heightened vulnerability to disease. Aid groups are urging the international community to provide additional funding and logistical support to prevent further catastrophe.

Authorities in Sudan have pledged to restore order, but the IOM notes that the conflict’s unpredictable nature and the multiplicity of armed factions complicate relief operations.

The Kordofan displacement crisis highlights the urgent need for political dialogue, security guarantees, and humanitarian corridors. Both regional and global stakeholders are monitoring the situation, emphasizing the protection of human rights and adherence to international humanitarian law.
