Addis Ababa – Cuba has congratulated South Sudan on the 15th anniversary of the proclamation of its independence, reaffirming historic ties of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

In a message, Cuban Ambassador to Ethiopia and concurrent Ambassador to South Sudan, Meylin Suárez Alvarez, conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Cuban people and government to the sister nation of South Sudan.

“Cuba and South Sudan are united by historic, fraternal ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation,” Suárez Alvarez said.

The ambassador noted that bilateral relations are actively coordinated between the respective missions in Addis Ababa and at the United Nations. She added that both countries maintain relations based on shared values of solidarity and cooperation.

Despite economic difficulties, Cuba continues to offer scholarships to African countries, including South Sudan, as part of its commitment to cooperation and human capital development.

South Sudan marked 15 years since declaring independence on July 9, 2011.
