PARIS — President Cyril Ramaphosa met with Alexandre Mérieux, Executive Chairman of bioMérieux, on the margins of his Official Visit to France to strengthen cooperation in health diagnostics and public health resilience.
bioMérieux is a global leader in vitro diagnostics and has maintained a presence in South Africa since establishing its Johannesburg subsidiary in 2007. The company supports South Africa’s national HIV viral load monitoring programme and has an established partnership with the country’s public health sector in strengthening infectious disease diagnostics.
According to the Presidency, the engagement focused on deepening cooperation in three priority areas: diagnostic readiness, laboratory capacity, and public health resilience. Discussions also covered support for South Africa’s preparedness against high-consequence infectious diseases and potential future research partnerships.
The meeting forms part of President Ramaphosa’s business programme during the Official Visit to France. The programme aims to strengthen bilateral economic relations and advance cooperation between South Africa and France in health, innovation and research.
Government said partnerships with diagnostic leaders like bioMérieux are critical to expanding testing capacity and improving disease surveillance across the country.
