VICTORIA, Seychelles — President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, has thanked Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez for a congratulatory message marking Seychelles’ 50th Anniversary of Independence.
The exchange took place on June 29, 2026, during a State House reception organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations with the Indian Ocean island nation.
Diplomatic missions accredited to Seychelles showcased elements of their cuisine and typical drinks at the event.
President Herminie stopped at the Cuban stand, where he thanked Cuban authorities for their message. He spoke with Cuban Ambassador to Seychelles, Iraida Guerrero, members of the Cuban Medical Brigade, and Cuban residents who prepared Caribbean dishes and drinks.
The Cuban booth was also visited by Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Barry Faure, Health Minister Marvin Fanny, and Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy Wallace Cosgrow, along with other government officials.
The stand drew strong attendance from Cuban nationals and representatives from the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, China, Russia, India, France, the European Union, and other special guests.
The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba is participating in Seychelles’ official programme of activities commemorating the 50th independence anniversary. Local outlets Nation Seychelles and Today Seychelles carried Ambassador Guerrero’s congratulatory message to the Seychellois people.
Cuba and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on April 12, 1978.
