The United States has approved a major $686 million sale of advanced technology and equipment to support Pakistan’s fleet of F-16 fighter jets, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement.
The package includes modern avionics, software upgrades, spare parts and technical support aimed at improving Pakistan’s counter-terrorism and air-defense capabilities. The DSCA emphasized that the deal will “not alter the basic military balance in the region” but will strengthen Pakistan’s ability to maintain its existing aircraft.
Pakistan has welcomed the approval, stating that the upgrade will enhance the Pakistan Air Force’s operational readiness. Analysts say the decision signals a cautious yet consistent US-Pakistan defense relationship amid broader geopolitical tensions in South Asia.
