UNITED KINGDOM – Her Excellency Mrs. Ismara Mercedes Vargas Walter, the Cuban Ambassador to the UK, addressed the Joint International Seminar hosted by UNISON this week.
The event brought together trade union representatives from UNISONSCOT, NorthWestUNISON, and UNISON Northern Ireland for discussions on international solidarity, workers’ rights, and global cooperation.
In her remarks, Ambassador Vargas Walter highlighted Cuba’s commitment to multilateralism and the importance of international trade union links in defending public services and social justice. She also spoke on the impact of the blockade on Cuban workers and the role of solidarity movements in the UK.
Delegates from the Scottish, North West, and Northern Ireland regions participated in panel sessions and workshops focused on building cross-border cooperation between unions and sharing experiences on organizing, equality, and international campaigns.
UNISON officials said the seminar aimed to strengthen ties between UK trade unions and international partners, with a focus on solidarity in the face of global economic and political challenges.
The Joint International Seminar forms part of UNISON’s ongoing international work to connect members with global struggles and to support campaigns for peace, justice, and workers’ rights worldwide.
