Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed strong solidarity with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro amid what Moscow describes as escalating pressure and aggression by the United States against Caracas. The statement underscores Russia’s continued political backing of Venezuela as tensions between Washington and Caracas intensify.
In remarks released by the Kremlin, President Putin condemned unilateral actions taken against Venezuela, warning that external interference undermines international law and state sovereignty. He reiterated Russia’s position that Venezuela’s internal affairs should be resolved by its people without foreign coercion.
Putin emphasized that sanctions and military pressure only worsen humanitarian conditions and destabilize regions already facing economic hardship. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to supporting Venezuela through diplomatic engagement, economic cooperation, and multilateral coordination.
The Russian leader also highlighted existing cooperation between Moscow and Caracas, particularly in energy, defense, and trade. He said both countries share a commitment to resisting what they view as the misuse of sanctions for political ends.
Venezuela has repeatedly accused the United States of seeking regime change through economic strangulation and political isolation. Russian support has been a key pillar for Caracas in countering Western pressure at international forums.
Analysts say Putin’s remarks reflect broader geopolitical alignments, with Russia positioning itself as a defender of multipolarity and an opponent of US-dominated global governance.
The statement comes as Washington increases diplomatic and economic measures against Venezuela, citing concerns over governance and regional security. Moscow, however, argues that such measures violate international norms and set dangerous precedents.
Russia and Venezuela have pledged to deepen strategic cooperation, with officials from both sides confirming ongoing dialogue. Observers say the public show of solidarity signals Moscow’s intent to remain an influential actor in Latin America.
