The United States has imposed a new round of sanctions on Venezuela, further escalating tensions between the two countries and deepening economic pressure on Caracas. The latest measures target individuals and entities linked to Venezuela’s energy and financial sectors, according to US officials.

Washington says the sanctions are intended to hold Venezuelan authorities accountable and curb activities it considers destabilizing. However, Venezuelan officials have strongly condemned the move, calling it an act of economic warfare designed to undermine the country’s sovereignty.

In a statement, the Venezuelan government said the sanctions will primarily harm ordinary citizens by restricting access to essential goods, financial services, and investment. Officials accused the US of ignoring the humanitarian consequences of its policies.

Economic analysts warn that additional sanctions could further strain Venezuela’s already fragile economy, limiting oil exports and access to international markets. Despite some easing measures in recent years, the country remains heavily constrained by financial restrictions.

The US Treasury Department said the sanctions are part of a broader strategy to pressure Caracas, while maintaining exemptions for humanitarian aid. Critics, however, argue that such exemptions often fail to offset broader economic damage.

International reactions have been mixed. Some US allies support the move, while others have expressed concern over its effectiveness and humanitarian impact. Countries such as Russia and Iran have openly opposed the sanctions, calling for dialogue instead of coercion.

Observers note that sanctions have not led to political change in Venezuela but have reshaped global alliances, pushing Caracas to strengthen ties with non-Western partners.

As tensions continue to rise, analysts warn that prolonged economic pressure could further polarize the situation, reducing prospects for negotiated solutions.
