PRETORIA — Venezuela’s Ambassador to South Africa H.E. Carlos Feo Acevedo addressed a commemoration in Pretoria on Monday, 06 July 2026, marking 215 years of independence and expressing gratitude for support following a recent earthquake that caused extensive damage.
Speaking at the Pretoria Art Museum, the Ambassador said the earthquake had inflicted “strong damage” on communities in Venezuela. He thanked those who attended to “mourn and show unity with Venezuela” during the national period of mourning.
He also addressed current political pressures facing the country, including United States sanctions and recent US actions related to President Nicolás Maduro, his wife, and other officials. The Ambassador criticized what he described as external interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs.
The Ambassador thanked the South African government for its continued support for Venezuela and for its solidarity with Cuba. He acknowledged the presence of members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and journalists at the event.
The commemoration was hosted by the Embassy of Venezuela in Pretoria to mark the country’s declaration of independence on July 5, 1811. The ceremony included the national anthems of both countries and concluded with a family photo of the diplomatic corps.
